A Chance Meeting with Dr. Subramanian Swamy
I had one of the most amazing and awesome experience once while travelling from Ahmedabad to Delhi. The day was 30th May 2015, Saturday and after finishing a meeting in Ahmedabad I had to take a flight from Ahmedabad airport and return to Delhi. On the airport I saw a politician and was sure I knew him but I was unable to remember his name. He had the company of 2 people with him. One of them looked like a secretary and another was a security guard. I thought of approaching him and confirm his identity as I knew who he was and what all work he had done but was unable to remember his name. It was on the tip of my tongue but I was still not able to remember who he was.
I was already late for my flight so I decided to rush to my gate as the boarding was about to be completed. I got to my seat. My seat number was 1E. I placed my hand luggage in the overhead compartment and sat down. As I was buckling my seatbelt I saw that the politician I was unable to meet at the airport came and stood next to me. I was excited that one of the most prominent personalities in India will be sitting next to me. But I was scared as I still could not remember his name. I was engulfed in his aura. I felt that his aura could even calm down a raging bull if he was charging straight at him.
I thought it was time I forgot his name but I had to talk to him. I remembered the work he did. He was the one who exposed the issue of Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi’s fake degrees. He was the one fighting for the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. I then took a big gulp and asked the most stupid question you could ever ask a personality like him “Sir I remember all the good work you have done but I am unable to remember your name. I am very sorry sir but can you please tell me your name.” I could hear people crossing our seat and saying to him that they admire his work, they are grateful to him and at the same time I could hear my inner voice saying “You are the most stupid person on this planet earth. How could you forget his name”.
As soon as he heard my question asking his name he broke into a laugh and replied humbly “My name is Subramanian Swamy”.
I was so relieved seeing him laugh. I was thinking that he might get angry as to how I could ask his name but he followed his sentence by asking my name. I extended my hand to shake his hand and said “My name is Punit Mathur.” I have met a few celebrities while travelling. In UK I met Pele for a brief 2 seconds, I have met Mohd. Azharuddin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar but no one ever asked my name in return only clicked a selfie or gave an autograph. I was excited like a little baby. I have a hard time controlling my excitement as many have even pointed this out to me.
We took our seats and we were ready to take off. While the pilot was preparing to takeoff I was preparing my list of questions I wanted to ask Dr. Subramanian Swamy. My first question to him was obviously the very hot topic during that time, whether the degree of Sonia and Rahul Gandhi actually fake. He smiled and replied that the degree is fake. Rahul Gandhi did got to Harvard but got temporary admission where the student is admitted for 3 months when a huge donation is paid. The student then has to undergo a test after 3 month to see whether they can be given full time admission. Rahul Gandhi failed that test. The reason was Rahul was not a bright student and he was addicted to drugs which caused him to fail the test. He never graduated from Harvard University. And as for Cambridge university degree of Sonia Gandhi, it was also not real as she never went to study in Cambridge University.
Later I asked him why we are having so many issues with Hindi language even though Hindi is our national language. He said that India has been for long divided and it will take time but we will see that Hindi will be accepted and not just Hindi, Sanskrit will also get it dues which were lost for a long time. Today if I see there are indeed steps taken by Smriti Irani are helpful in reviving Sanskrit by making it a compulsory subject in government schools.
After discussing on various topics I asked him what a common man can do to help the country. His answer was simple. Work hard and excel at what you are doing. You will grow, help people around you grow and that will help the nation to grow.
I asked him what drives him to strive so hard against all odds. Again I got a simple answer from him. He said he loves his country and wants to see it at the No. 1 position in the world.
Then in my excitement I made a boo boo. I asked him why we are divided even after we are India and added a line which I don’t remember but even I knew it was wrong and it was pointed out by Subramanian Swamy as well. I could see that he was not happy with my question. He then gave me a life lesson which I will never forget. He was clearly annoyed but did not lose his temper. Instead he calmly told me that I am focusing only on the negativity of the country. I should instead focus on positives. I should think of how I can help make the country progress instead of worrying about all the negative things that are stopping progress. I should reevaluate my love for the country, my current work and my personal life only then I can contribute positively.
I spent total 1 hour talking to him. I learned new things from him. His aura had brushed up on me and it made me a bit more positive person. The lesson he taught me are the lessons I will never forget in my life. I was lucky enough to meet such a great person that too without appointment and get life lessons from him.
If Dr. Subramanian Swamy ever stumbles upon this article I would like to sincerely thank him for the time he gave me out of his busy schedule and the lessons he taught me. All the best to you for your work and I can assure you one thing that even though you have many people opposing and questioning every work you do, I will never stop supporting you. I Salute you Sir.
