Reliance Jio: When Goodwill Is Exploited.
The hype of the Jio sim going around creating record for highest number of Sim cards sold and highest invested Start-up is true. Currently a Jio sim offers you
- 4GB 4G data every day.
- Free local and STD calling
- Free Roaming
- Free SMS
All this and more till 31st of December. From the 1st of January you will need to select one or the other tariff plans they have. This is a dream come true especially for students, couples and corporates. In general, everyone, but as every coin has two sides, there are some people who are running a low level con here.
YES, A CON! OR SCAM, you might call it.
But the twist here is that Mukesh Ambani or his Jio Company is not the con artist here, as many might think. The actual con artists are the retail stores selling Jio Sims.
On the 15th of October, I went to the Digi Express store in my area, sector 31, Gurgaon to get a new Jio Sim. I had just bought a new 4G mobile a day before and installed the ‘My Jio’ app standing outside the Digi Express Store and generated the barcode. I stood in line for about 30 minutes and when my turn came, their system showed that my barcode was already redeemed.
I want someone to explain it to me how can my barcode be redeemed. A mobile phone bought less than 24 hours ago, My Jio app installed while waiting in the line, how the hell I can get a message that my barcode has been redeemed.
The situation got funnier when I tried to tweet about it. Jio deleted my tweet as big corporates have special right to delete negative tweets. I faced the same when my brother ordered some clothes from Jabong and waited 20 days for the same. They deleted tweets as if I was nobody and they are a big corporate powerhouse with money and can purchase the highest premium packages to get the power of deleting the negative comments.
I got the Jio helpline no. from the ever supportive Google, one place where I can rely 99.99% of the time to actually seek help. I called the Jio customer service and told them about my predicament. They asked me to send them the details of my mobile, barcode, IMEI no. and a few more. After doing so, (on the 16th of October) I got the reply from their auto reply that they will get back within 48 hours. It seems their 48 hours are not up yet as I have not received any help from them.
I did some detective work by going to different shops which are not authorized but they sell Jio Sims. I found an interesting thing that while Jio is selling the sim for free, these unauthorized vendors sell it from Rs. 150 to Rs. 500. But how they manage to get these Sims is what puzzles me. To get a Jio sim, you need to give your Aadhar card no. and then register your finger print and lastly, they use the barcode especially generated only on 4G mobiles on MyJio app and that too you cannot generate multiple barcodes form a single mobile. Believe me, I tried after my predicament. So, after more sleuthing around I found certain loop holes and certain bypass method which might be possible. Here is the list:
- An inside job. Some people claim that Jio employees are facilitating Sims for a small commission. This fact is yet to be verified but can be looked into as all big conquering in the world was never successful without a traitor.
- There are apps which help you create random barcodes like Keygen. Some store owners take a written barcode and do not check the phone as they are only interested in whether the barcode works and nothing more.
- Stolen mobiles or hacking softwares.
Out of the 3, I can guarantee the 2nd one is actually true but others are just a speculation which is hard to prove by myself, but may be, someone can help me out here and give me some proof or hints. Also if anyone has any information regarding this topic please contact me; I would love to hear more on this.
So all in all, I just want to say ‘GIVE ME MY JIO SIM YOU’ damn Jio people. Do not try to delete my article this time as you deleted my tweet. OK.
